Andisheh Karami is an architect, writer and painter based in Düsseldorf.
Alongside her work as an architect, she writes in Persian. So far she has written around thirty poems and ten short stories, as well as daily notes on the senses and on slow time. She is currently working on her first novel. Some of her texts appear here in German and English translation.
In her works on paper, a poem is written by hand in Persian and German until the writing turns into surface. Script, ink and colour meet, and text and image can no longer be separated.
Her current series, Was beim Übersetzen zurückbleibt / What is left behind in translation, takes words from German and Persian that have no exact equivalent in the other language, and gives each one a sheet of writing and colour.
Her reading is shaped by Marguerite Duras and Samuel Beckett, and by the cinema of Theo Angelopoulos.
